Harold Schoessow, of Mequon, passed away in the morning hours of Sunday, May 26, 2019. He was 89 years old.
Harold was born on September 21, 1929 to the late Herbert and Esther (Klug) Schoessow. A lifelong resident of Mequon, he became the fifth generation to run the family farm. He graduated from Cedarburg High School with the class of 1947, and shortly thereafter met Dorothy Nieman. They were married for 65 loving years. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Connie Birchhill, Larry (Chris) Schoessow, Kurt (Cary) Schoessow, eight grandchildren: Joshua, Joseph, Allissa, Casey, Lindsey, Kallie, Elizabeth, and Jessica, and five great-grandchildren: Isabella, William, Saige, Declan, and Finn. Harold is further survived by sister Ruth Leininger, brother Tim (Theresa) Schoessow, brother-in-law Bert Griffin, step-sister Doreen (Robert) Corso. Harold will be missed by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his sisters Dolores (the late Marvin) Boehlke, Dorothy Griffin, Evelyn (the late Wayne) Rutz, and his brother James Schoessow.
Harold was active in many organizations, including many related to farming. He was a past board member of the Ozaukee Farm Bureau, Equity Livestock Association, and the Ozaukee County Dairy Promotion. He promoted the dairy industry in places as far away as China and Brazil. He played trombone with the Alte Kameraden for over 70 years, traveling to Germany several times with the group. He was a charter member of the Pommerscher Verein Freistadt and the Freistadt Heritage Foundation. He served two terms as an alderman in Mequon, eventually becoming President of the Common Council.
Please join his family to celebrate Harold's life on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:45 AM, and service at 12:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Freistadt, 10729 W. Freistadt Rd., Mequon. He will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. A lunch will follow the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Trinity Freistadt Historical Society, or the Freistadt Heritage Foundation – Pete Randall Legacy Scholarship.
