IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon L.
Thill
September 25, 1930 – December 30, 2025
Mr. Gordon L. "Gordy" Thill of Fredonia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Belgium Gardens in Belgium, where he had been residing for the last few months. He was 95 years old.
Gordy was born at home on his parents' farm in the Town of Fredonia on September 25, 1930, the son of Leo and Susanne (nee Pierron) Thill. He attended Holy Cross Catholic School and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1948. Gordy joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was stationed in Germany and achieved the rank of SP3.
On Sept. 14, 1957, Gordy was united in marriage with Mary Alice Wester at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lake Church. They settled on the Thill farm in the Town of Fredonia and began their family and a life together rooted in hard work and devotion. Throughout his farming career, Gordy partnered with Alvin Schueller sharing equipment, labor, and friendship during the harvest seasons. He also served on the Random Lake Co-Op offering steady leadership to the farming community and later becoming Co-Op president. Gordy also gave generously of his time to the Ozaukee County Dairy Promotion Committee, volunteering as the photographer for Breakfast on the Farm. Gordy and Mary ran the farm for 46 years, after which they moved into a home they built in Fredonia.
When time permitted, Gordy found joy in bowling and golf. He was proud to receive a pin for achieving one of the first 700 series in bowling league. On the golf course, he celebrated two hole-in-ones. The first was at Squires Golf Course on the day of his 50th high school reunion, and the second was at Hawthorne Hills during league where he was also league champion a few times. For over 40 years, he sang with the "Singing Farmers" who travelled to nursing homes to bring music and comfort to residents. In retirement, he often tinkered on projects at the family farm and worked on complex puzzles, always keeping his hands and mind engaged. He had a warm, welcoming smile for others, a laugh that put everyone at ease, and a kindness about him that was truly unforgettable.
During their 65 years of marriage, Gordy and Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to Great Britain and Luxembourg. The couple had also been members of a close-knit card club group that played sheepshead together for more than 60 years. They were both proud of their Luxembourg heritage and were active in the Luxembourg Society of Wisconsin. In 1997, Gordy and Mary were crowned Duke and Duchess at Luxembourg Fest. Mary preceded Gordy in death in 2023.
Gordy was a faithful member of Divine Savior Parish where he ushered, sang in the choir for many years, and participated in the "That Man is You" group. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He cherished his Catholic faith, prayed the Rosary weekly, and attended Mass regularly.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Paul "Gordy" (Jennifer) Thill of the Town of Fredonia. He was the devoted Bopa to his beloved grandchildren Erin (Dan) Southerington of Ocean City, MD, Allison Keough (fiance Todd Michalek) of Syracuse, NY, Marissa (Ben) Esterley of Hopkins, MN, and Mason Thill of Fredonia, and the great-grandfather of Robert, Zachary, and Quinn. He is further survived by son-in-law Gary (Carol) Keough of Salisbury, MD, nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Gordy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, daughter Donna, sister Arline (the late Harvey) Thill, sisters-and brothers-in-law Beatrice (the late Herb) Krier, Blanche (the late Robert) Thill, Bertram (the late Verena) Wester, and James (the late Lucille) Wester.
