Gilbert "Gil" John Nock Jr. MD, passed away at his home with family present and family prayers from a distance. He passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the age of 89. Gil was born on January 29, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Gilbert and Dorothy (nee Leach) Nock.
Gil was a proud veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955 when he was honorably discharged. He served as 1st Class Petty Officer and with the Hospital Corps. After his discharge Gil obtained a Bachelor of Science from Marquette University, which he completed in 1959. He went on to obtain his M.D. from Marquette University College of Medicine in 1963 and interned from 1963-1964 at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee. He completed his Psychiatric Residency in 1967. In Gil's psychiatric practice he worked with a number of psychiatrists and in solo practice he specialized in group psychotherapy and counseling women who had experienced abuse.
In his free time, Gil enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, jet skiing and RVing. He also played guitar in two music groups, Country Cousins and String-A-Long. Bible study and bird feeding were also very important to him.
Gil is survived by his wife of 48 years Kathy (nee Sonju) Nock, children: Elizabeth Traynor, Andrew (Laurie) Nock, Thomas (Jeanne) Nock and Seamus Black, grandchildren Christopher, Patrick, Katie, Annalee, John, Justin, Renee, Huda and Hamza. Gil is further survived by two nephews and other relatives and many friends. Gil is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Jane Carlson.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at Crossroads Presbyterian Church on August 8, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
