Mrs. Gertrud Zernikel, of Port Washington, formerly of New Berlin, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 22, 2022, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. She was 89 years old. Gertrud was born in Limburg, Germany on April 5, 1933. On August 25, 1956, she married Viktor Zernikel in Limburg. The couple immigrated to the United States in November of 1962 and settled in Milwaukee. Viktor and Gertrud later moved to New Berlin to raise their young family. She enjoyed and took great pride in her yardwork, knitting, crocheting, and cooking and baking German meals.

Gertrud is survived by her son Dieter (Debra Oberlin) of Saukville, her four grandchildren: Kathryn, Matthew, Christopher, and Jacob. She is further survived by her four great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Gertrud is preceded in death by her husband Viktor, and her two sons Dr. Reiner Zernikel and Michael Zernikel.

Visitation for Gertrud will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 3-6 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Good Hope Cemetery in Greenfield.
