Long time Cedarburg resident Geraldine "Gerry" Wilger ascended peacefully on May 29, 2019 at the age of 85. Gerry was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on March 27, 1934 the daughter of Leo and Regina (nee Wadzinski) Koppa. She married her husband Ambrose on September 3, 1955 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wausau. They made their home in Mequon, then in Cedarburg on Cedar Creek. Together Ambrose and Gerry founded Ambrose Engineering in 1977. Gerry was a loving, dedicated wife and mother who took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent baker known for her delicious cookies, pies and desserts. Gerry was a talented gardener and meticulously tended her flower gardens. Her prized flower was the deep pink peony transplanted from her grandmother's garden. Gerry enjoyed taking travel tours with Ambrose and visited a variety of countries and states. She and Ambrose enjoyed bowling and playing sheepshead and participated in leagues for many years. Gerry was a Girl Scout Troop leader, a member of the Cedarburg Woman's Club, American Legion auxiliary, and The St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an active volunteer, especially at St. Francis Borgia Parish. Gerry loved collecting and enjoyed crystal and colored glassware, as well as items depicting birds, butterflies and flowers.
She is survived by Ambrose, her husband of 63 years; children Brian (Kerry) Wilger of Port Washington, Stephanie Wilger of Oakland, California, Terese (Mark) Jaeger of Manitowoc, and Kristine (Brian) Sandberg of Port Washington; grandchildren David Jaeger, Michael Jaeger, and Anna Sandberg; sister Mary (James) Wilger, Wausau; nieces and nephews Robert (Andrea) Wilger, Renee (Mark) Wilger-Abbott, Pamela (Ali) Wilger, Christopher Koppa, and Jennifer (Patrick) Zielinski along with many cousins, other relatives and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Howard Koppa and sister-in-law Judith (Troch) Koppa.
The family thanks Kris Sandberg for her devotion and continuous care of our mother Gerry the past few years of her life, as well as the skilled staff at Ellen's Home in Port Washington and Horizon Hospice for such genuine and deep caring.
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM. on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church-North, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg, WI 53012. Interment at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday June 4th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1167 Washington Ave. in Cedarburg and on Wednesday at the church from 10:30AM. until time of mass.
