George Frederick Schmit of Port Washington passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the age of 84. He was born the beloved son of Alfred and Anastasia "Daisy" (Paulus) Schmit on January 15, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI.

George loved animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed keeping busy with latch hooking, canvas stitching, coloring, crocheting and other crafts. George was an avid Packers fan and loved watching John Wayne Western movies. Above all, George cherished spending time with his family.

George will remain in the hearts of his numerous nieces, nephews; niece and Goddaughter Joyce Herkowski and adored adopted dog Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Rev. Frederick Schmit, Rosemary (Joseph) Krebs, Dorothy (Carl) Clark, Paul (Rose Marie) Schmit, and Helen (Lawrence) Horn.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington, WI 53074. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of service. George will be laid to rest next to his parents at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Port Washington.

In celebration of George's life, attendants are encouraged to wear Green Bay Packer attire.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Heritage Nursing Home for their care and compassion and to Compassus Hospice for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Ozaukee County Humane Society.
