Obituary

George Federspiel, of Port Washington, passed away Sunday morning, January 3, 2016 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington. He was 94 years old. George was born February 22, 1921 in Port Washington, the son of John and Olivia Ackerman Federspiel. After graduating from Port Washington High School in 1939, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. On November 26, 1950, he was united in marriage with Angelina Mariano in Revere, MA. She preceded him in death in 1993. For over 25 years, he owned and operated Federspiel Hardware in Port Washington with his brother and sister. The store closed in the mid 1990's. George was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington, the Port Washington Police Department Auxiliary and a former member of the Port Washington American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and watching tv, especially wrestling, cooking shows, PBS and British shows. George is survived by his 4 sons: Michael (Jeanette) of Captain Cook, HI, James (Yon Cha) of Phoenix, AZ, Anthony of Cudahy and Peter (Lynda) of Port Washington. He is further survived by 5 grandchildren: Jaimie, Steven, Stephanie, Jessica and Jennifer, great-grandchild Camron, brother Carl (Loretta) Federspiel of Port Washington, sister-in-law Mary Federspiel of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Angelina, 2 sisters: Margaret and Rita Federspiel and 3 brothers: Norbert (wife Hiltrude), Wilfred (Brother Conrad CP) and Joseph. A Memorial Mass will be held at 5:30PM on Tuesday, January 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 430 Johnson St. in Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 4-5:30PM. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery beside his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
