George Wayne Brookins of Fredonia was called home on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the age of 81. He was born in Oakfield, Wis. to Alvah and Mildred Brookins on July 23, 1941. George married Inez Broemer in Ontonagon, MI on January 21, 1961 and together they had five children.
George worked for Neidikorn Plastering for a few years before taking a dry wall taper position at BSI. He ultimately retired from Jahn & Sons. George was a volunteer fireman for the Fredonia Fire Department and a pioneer member of the Northern Ozaukee Ambulance. He was a loyal member of St. John Lutheran Church.
George enjoyed woodworking and with the help of his father Alvah and grandson Matthew, they built a 16-foot, 3 man Adirondack guide boat in 2007. He cherished the time spent driving his 1949 Crosley Hot Shot. Above all, George treasured the time spent traveling, fishing and camping with his family.
George is survived by his wife Inez, his children Linda Strelow, Michael, Dean (Bonnie), Jeffrey (Joan); grandchildren, Vincent Strelow, Matthew (Laura) Strelow, Amanda Sandrone, Ashley (Kevin) Sweeney, Adam Brookins, Cora (Seth) Loven, and Cory (Lydia) Brookins and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his son Paul, two brothers and one sister.
A Funeral Service will take place at 12:00pm on Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, 824 Fredonia Ave. Fredonia, WI 53021. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. George will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Waubeka.
Memorials are appreciated to St. John Lutheran Church in Fredonia or the Northern Ozaukee Fire & Ambulance in George's memory.
