Gene E. Wilfer, of Port Washington, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born to Edward and Minerva (nee Bates) Wilfer on June 18, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Gene grew up in the town of Trenton and attended West Bend schools. On July 20, 1957 he was united in marriage with Jacqueline R. DaRonco at Holy Angels Church in West Bend, Wisconsin and have been married for 60 years. Together they had three children.
Gene proudly served as a US Marine. He enlisted on August 23, 1953 and served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge on August 23, 1956. Gene worked for ER Godfrey and retired from Russell T. Gilman in 1997 after 30 years. After retirement, he worked for Custom Wire Technology.
Gene was a member of St. Peter Alcantra Church and sang in the choir for 48 years. He was a member of Jaycees, American Legion Post 82, Boy Scout leader, and was the neighborhood handy man. Gene went fishing on the Chippewa Flowage, hunted at Main Artery. He tookg trips to the Casino, traveled to see waterfalls, and enjoyed playing sheepshead. Most importantly he treasured his time spent with family and friends.
Gene is survived by his wife Jackie Wilfer, son James (Kelly) Wilfer of Plymouth, daughters: Sandra (John) Schultz of Hartford and Wendy Behling of Hartford. Gene is further survived by his grandchildren: Amanda, A.J., Jasmine, Harley, Joshua. Great-grandchildren: Sean, his buddy Devon, Skylar, Remington, a baby on the way. Brother Charles (Darlis) Wilfer, sister Karen Larson, brothers-in-law: Eugene (Shirley) DaRonco and Russell (Nancy) Hewitt, sisters-in-law: Laura DaRonco and Claire Hewitt, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Minerva, sister Joann (Irv) Yaggie, brothers-in-law: John Larson, John DaRonco, Art Hewitt, and niece Sarah Pietrantonio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00PM, September 9, 2017 at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington with Fr. Pat Wendt presiding. Visitation will be at the CHURCH from 9:00AM until the time of service. The American Legion Post 82 will be doing a walk thru at 11:30AM. Inurnment and Military Honors will take place at St Mary's Cemetery in Port Washington.
