Obituary

FREDERICK M. SCHMIDT FRITZ Mr. Fred Schmidt of Bayhill Road in Port Washington passed away at his residence while surrounded by his family Saturday evening September 28 2013. He was 89 years old. Frederick was born in Milwaukee son of John and Anna (Fischer) Schmidt. He attended local schools and graduated from West Division High School with the Class of 1942. Fritz enlisted in the US Navy during World War II serving proudly as a machinist aboard the USS Tarawa and the USS Varuna in the Pacific Theatre for much of the war. On October 14 1950 he was united in marriage with Virginia Nauertz of Milwaukee. The couple settled on the north side and raised their family. Fritz worked as a fireman on the Whitefish Bay Fire Department for over 25 years. In 1979 Fritz and Virginia moved to their newly built home in the Town of Trenton before moving to Port Washington in 2007. While living in the West Bend area Mr. Schmidt worked with the maintenance department at Holy Angels School. Fritz was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Packers and Brewers coaching loudly from his chair in the living room. He enjoyed golf going to the family cottage in Eagle River and frequent casino junkets. Fred also liked spending time with his granddaughters traveling out to San Diego to see them whenever he got the chance. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years Virginia and their three children: Bruce (Jacqueline) Schmidt of San Diego CA Jan (Chuck) Hammel and Terri Schmidt both of Port Washington. He is further survived by three granddaughters: Nina (fiance Gavin McCorkle) Schmidt Kendall Roxy and Stephanie Schmidt all of San Diego CA sister Lorraine Nicki (George) Steinle of Baltimore MD nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son Rick his parents and his sister Hildegarde Jackie Raniewicz. A Memorial Service will be held at 6PM on Thursday at the Eernisse Funeral Home (1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington) followed by Military Honors. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:30PM until 6PM.
