Obituary

FREDERICKnbsp; J. MICHALOWSKI ldquo;Mikerdquo; Fred ldquo;Mikerdquo; Michalowski of Lincoln Ave. in Port Washington formerly of South Milwaukee passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon April 18 2010 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan surrounded by the love of his family. He was 82 years old. Fred was born in Worcester Massachusetts on January 15 1928 the son of Stephen and Catherine Malloy Michalowski. He attended Commerce High School before honorably serving his country in the Merchant Marines and the US Army during WWII. Fred was united in marriage with the love of his life Audrey Leu on July 9 1946 in Worcester MA. He was a loyal employee of the Milwaukee County Transit Company for 30 years before retiring in 1990. Mr. Michalowski was a member of St. Maryrsquo;s Catholic Church in Port Washington and a former member of Divine Mercy in South Milwaukee. A deeply devout Catholic Fred loved his church and was a devoted member of the Ushers Society for over 50 years. nbsp;Fred was a member of American Legion Post 355 in Grafton and touched many young lives through his involvement with Senior Scout Drill Team Cub Scouts Catholic Youth Organization and coaching youth football and basketball at St. Agnes Grade School in Milwaukee. In their retirement Fred and Audrey loved to travel enjoying trips to Hawaii and Punta Cana. Fred was an avid fan of the Packers Brewers and John Wayne and enjoyed singing with the Port Washington Seniors golfing reading doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family especially following the activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.nbsp; Fred is survived by loving wife of 63 years Audrey (nee Leu) and their children: Bruce (Beth) Michalowski of Batavia IL Kim (Yolanda) Michalowski of Waukesha Kevin (Cheri) Michalowski of Fredonia Brian (Carol) Michalowski of Merrill WI Keith (Sherri) Michalowski of Port Washington and Kathy (Tom) Lieburn of Marinette WI. nbsp;He was a cherished ldquo;second dadrdquo; to Richard (Diane) Metzger as well as ldquo;Poprdquo; and ldquo;Coachrdquo; to countless others. nbsp;Fred is further survived by his grandchildren: Kevin Jr (Christine) Alison Nathan Lucas Sarah (Shawn) Scott (Kaye) Matt (Cori) Michael (Miranda) Aaron (Mercedes) Brian (Lindsey) Kate Mark (Meaghan) Melissa (fianceacute; Terry) Alexandra and Nicholasnbsp; great-grandchildren: nbsp;Zachary Zoe Noah Morgan Julian Jack Gabriel Julia Edith Vivienne Carson and two babies arriving later this year brothers and sisters-in-law nieces nephews his golf buddies Harry Al and Karl and numerous other friends. nbsp;Welcoming Fred to heaven are his parents Catherine and Steve brother Robert sister Joan infant grandson Matthew James and faithful friend Gerry Weber.nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1PM on Friday April 23 2010 at Divine Mercy Chapel 1700 13th Ave. in South Milwaukee. Father Robert Betz will officiate. Fred will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Oak Creek. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 10AM ndash; 1PM. Memorials are appreciated to the American Heart Association. The family deeply appreciates the many friends who supported them during Fredrsquo;s final illness including the medical staff and caretakers involved in his valiant struggle.
