Obituary

After a long battle with cancer, Frank Robert Chopp passed away peacefully at his Port Washington, WI home on May 24th, 2026. He was 85 years old.

Frank was a proud Yooper born in the poor copper mining town of Painesdale, MI on July 8th, 1940. His parents were William Chopp of Painesdale and immigrant Mother Louise Enriette of Northern Italy. Frank grew up in the nearby town of Toivola and graduated from Jeffers High School in Painesdale. After High School, he proudly served in the United States Navy starting in 1958. Frank was Honorably discharged in 1964 after traveling the globe on a Destroyer, the USS Sherman.

Soon after, he met and married Diane Weiland of Mequon, WI. They were the best of partners for 56 years. After moving to Port Washington in 1973, they raised their two sons, Brian and Bradley. Frank spent 25 years working as a movie projectionist in various Milwaukee movie theaters followed by becoming a factory machinist in Port Washington. He retired in 2002.

After retirement, Frank enjoyed many years of spending time with family and friends, following the stock market, traveling out west, trout fishing, complaining about the Green Bay Packers, and telling you his honest opinion.

Frank is survived by wife Diane of Port Washington, his two sons Brian (Ann) Chopp of Howard, WI, Bradley (Angela) Chopp of Lake Mills, WI, three grandchildren: Tyler, Molly and Maddie, and special niece Ann Marie Lantz of Toivola, MI. Frank is further survived by many loving family members, friends, and neighbors. The family greatly appreciates their support through these difficult times.

Frank will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Port Washington.

Please join family and friends to celebrate Frank on Sunday, June 28th from 1:00-4:00 at Lepanto Hall (Port Holliday Inn Express) on 350 E Seven Hill Road, Port. Please dress in “Frank casual” attire (Jeans).

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
