Florence S. Chmielewski Florence Chmielewski of Port Washington formerly of Las Vegas and West Allis passed away into the loving arms of her Lord on Wednesday December 7 2011 at Columbia St. Mary's Hospice Center in Mequon. She was 92 years old. Florence was born in Chicago IL on June 12 1919 the first daughter of Frank and Mary Kogut Opiela. When she was three her family moved to the Milwaukee area. Growing up she attended school in the West Allis area. In July of 1938 she married Roman Chmielewski at Holy Assumption Catholic Church in West Allis. She worked in the office and as a switchboard operator at Pabst Brewing Co. in Milwaukee for 20 years retiring in 1983. After her retirement Florence moved to Las Vegas where she lived until 2006 when she moved to Port Washington. Florence was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington and the Port Washington Senior Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family playing cards and cutting and sharing coupons. She is survived by her children Bonnie (Don) Porteus of Cedarburg Robert (Sandi) Chmielewski of Las Vegas NV and Arthur (the late Carol) Chmielewski of Bear Creek WI. She is the loving Busha of 14 grandchildren; Steve (Ana) Porteus of Cedarburg Heather (Mike) Krueger of Port Washington Mary (John) Young of Wauwatosa Robert (Jayme) Porteus of Madison Ramona (Marc) Allen of Seattle WA Jodi Chmielewski of Seattle WA Korie Chmielewski of Elm WA Brooke Chmielewski of Las Vegas NV January (Scott) Tschan of Las Vegas NV Jodikae Thompson of Weyauwega WI Pat Thompson of Pewaukee WI and Matt Thompson Adam and Noelle Chmielewski all of Bear Creek WI and 18 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother Edward Opiela of Eagle WI and her sister Irene Jirovec of West Allis nieces nephews other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her former husband Roman her brother Frank Opiela Jr. two sisters Genevieve Liedtke and Dolores Montalbano and many sisters and brothers-in-law. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday December 13th at 11 AM at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church 1800 N. Wisconsin St. in Port Washington with Father Pat Wendt officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. A time of gathering will be held at the CHURCH from 10-11 AM. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family.
