Evelyn Ruffing of Port Washington passed away in the evening hours of Wednesday January 9 2013 at The Harbor Club in Port Washington where she had resided. She passed away one month short of her one hundredth birthday. In her 99 plus years Evelyn had many challenges including being a 25 year breast cancer survivor. Evelyn was born in Port Washington on February 15 1913 daughter of Peter Reiter and Bertha Luedtke Reiter. On September 5 1936 she married Len Ruffing at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. Evelyn worked as a machine operator at the Port Washington Chair Factory. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington and the Catholic Knights. Her bible was very important to her as was her rosary. She was a very devout Catholic. Bingo was tops on her list of fun things to do at the Harbor Club. Evie also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles crocheting afghans for her children and grandchildren and was an avid reader. Evelyn was well known for her tortes and kuchens. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Carol (Robert A.) Noll of the Town of Port Washington six grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren six great-great-grandchildren (with number seven on the way) nieces nephews other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Len her daughter Joyce (the late Leonard) Hildebrand one great-grandson Adam Puerling two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 14th at 1:30 pm at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Evelyn will take place on Monday January 14th at the Funeral Home from 12 noon until the time of the funeral services. Memorials suggested to the Port Washington Food Pantry.
