Obituary

Evelyn (Peiffer) Goedde, 95, of Port Washington, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Harbor Cove in Port Washington. Born on June 30, 1921 in Holy Cross, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late John Peiffer and Rose (Wester) Peiffer. On April 26, 1941 she was united in marriage with Alex Goedde, son of George Goedde and Susan (Mayer) Goedde, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in the Town of Belgium. They lived in Milwaukee until Mr. Goedde was called to service in the United States Navy in early 1944. She and her 8-month-old daughter moved to the home of her parents in Holy Cross until Alex returned in 1945. They then made their home in Port Washington for the rest of their lives. Alex preceded her in death in 2007. Before she was married, Evelyn worked at Krier Preserving Co. in Belgium, Later in her life she worked at Phillip's Sales in Belgium, making Christmas decorations and retired after 25 years on the job. Mrs. Goedde was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington where she was active in the Christian Mothers Society when she was younger. During the first years of her marriage, when her husband was in service, she sang in the Holy Cross Church Choir. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, crocheting afghans and loved to draw. Her happiest years were when she and Alex went polka and square dancing. She spent many years participating in water exercise classes and did a lot of walking. For over 68 years she belonged to a card club that met once a month. Mrs. Goedde is survived by her daughters Bonnie (Ken) Brown of Port Washington and Linda (Stefan) Schmitt of Eltville, Germany, son, Richard (Lorraine) Goedde of Farmington, MN, one grandson, Chad (Nicole Ryan) Brown of Seattle, WA, and one great-grandson, Jake Ryan Brown. She is also survived by two step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters, five step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Sally (Al) Lehman, Hildegard (Melvin) Bremser, Roman (Sally), Ervin (Ruth), Milton (Hattie), Clarence (Marcella), Harry (Doris), Al (Eleanor), Norbert (Laverne), Mamie, Anne and Esther Peiffer; brothers- and sisters-in law Harold (Gertrude) Goedde and Raymond (Clara) Goedde. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 6:00 p.m., March 31st at St. John XXXIII Congregation, St. Mary's Church in Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:30 - 5:30p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Washington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. Memorials to St. John XXXIII Congregation are appreciated. Funeral arrangements are being handled through Eernisse Funeral Home.
