Obituary

Evelyn Bichler, of Port Washington, formerly of Belgium, went to Heaven to be with her beloved angels on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at her residence. She was 84 years old.

Evelyn was born at home in Fredonia on Christmas Eve, 1938, daughter of Joseph, Sr. and Elizabeth (nee Pierre) Klein. She grew up in Fredonia and graduated from Port Washington High School with the class of 1956.

On July 11, 1959, she married John Bichler at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Fredonia. The couple purchased the family farm in 1965 to raise their family. In 1968, they purchased an adjacent farm. John and Evelyn operated the dairy farm until selling it to their son Gary in 1989.

Evelyn was a long-time member of the Christian Mother's Society at St. Nicholas parish. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Belgium. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events especially softball games. In addition, she and John traveled extensively around the US with their RV. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, Diamond Dotz and a wide variety of crafting activities. She was well known for her cake decorating skills and made many special birthday cakes as well as cakes for special occasions such as weddings and anniversaries. In addition, she loved to play BINGO, Rummikub and put together puzzles as well as play Wahoo! with her nemesis, Black Bart.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Gary (Claire) Bichler of Belgium, Debra (Tim) Miller of Belgium, Patti Bichler of Waukesha, and Paul Bichler of Chandler, AZ. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren: Heather (Luke) Meinen, Emily (Kenny) Dornburg, Shawn Miller, and Ali (Tony Maher) Bichler, and great-grandmother to her six great-grandchildren: Myla, Orion, Penny, Skye, Jules, and Brooks. Evelyn is further survived by her two brothers Joseph, Jr. (the late Marilyn) and Norbert (the late Beverly) Klein along with her sister Elvira (the late Edward) Paulus, two sisters-in-law Beverly (the late Harold) Bichler and Marge (the late Richard) Bichler, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband John, and an infant son Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial and Visitation will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Divine Savior Parish – Holy Cross chapel. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM with Mass at 6 PM. Father Steve Lampe will preside over the Mass. Evelyn will be laid to rest at St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery in Dacada.
