The Lord welcomed home Erwin A. "Gloomy" Frank, age 86, of Random Lake, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. He passed away surrounded by his children at HarborChase of Naperville Assisted Living Care Center. Erwin was born in Cedarburg on July 13, 1934, son of Erwin M. and Magdaline "Lena" (Armbruster) Frank. He was a proud graduate of Cedarburg High School, Class of 1952. On June 18, 1960 Erwin was united in marriage with the love of his life, Jacqueline Leider, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Random Lake. The couple settled into a one-room cabin that Erwin bought on Random Lake in 1958 and began their family. Gloomy worked as a plastering contractor with Niederkorn Plastering in Port Washington, retiring in 1995. Erwin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, presently Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, for 56 years. He loved putzing and working on house projects. He turned the one room cabin into a two story, four-bedroom home. With the same German architectural style, he constructed a two-story garage where many slumber parties were enjoyed. Erwin was attuned to the birds and wildlife coming and going each season, the change of wind direction and how it effected the lake. His property was a piece of Heaven and his home a sanctuary. Those left to honor his memory include his six children: Jody (Robert) Bartzen of West Bend, John (Carol) Frank of Granite Bay, CA, Jill (Dr. Scott) Marshall of La Crosse, James "AJ" (Cheryl) Frank of Sturgeon Bay, Jane (Dr. Brent) Fonner of Aurora, IL and Julie (Paul) Dieck of Menomonee Falls. He is further survived by 25 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren (with another soon-to-arrive), sister Lenore (the late Norbert) Stern of Cedarburg, brother Edward (Bernadine) Frank of Madison, sisters-in-law Dolores "Dorie" Frank of Waukesha and Susan (William) Rusch of Batavia and brother-in-law Mark (Sharon) Leider of Sheboygan, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jacqueline, and brother Charles Frank. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:30PM on Monday, May 3, 2021 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, 1275 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg. Fr. Jordan Berghouse will preside. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg, on Monday from 9:30AM until 12noon, processing from the funeral home for Mass at 12:30PM. Masks are required. Erwin will be laid to rest at 9:30AM the following day beside his wife at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Random Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Mass intentions, or to Providence Academy La Crosse, (www. providencelacrosse.org), as catholic education was important to Erwin. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scott Jorgensen for the decades of care and support provided to not only Erwin, but to the family as well.
