Obituary

Ervin Richard Koch of Cedar Grove was Born to Eternal Life on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Sharon (1939-2011). Cherished father of Debbie (Jack) Klinger, Darrell (Kim), Dan, David (Debbie), Dean (Sheila). Son of the late Ervin and Alice Koch. Loving brother of Lois Wawrzyn, Gordy (Melanie) and Don. Preceded in death by brothers Joe and Gary. Precious grandfather to Kurtis, Kenny (Heidi), Kristina and Kyle Klinger; CPL Derek Koch, Dillan and Dana Koch; Abby, Matthew and little baby angel Josephine Koch. Precious great grandfather to Mia and Claire. Erv was a supporting member of two churches, St. Mary's Lake Church (Belgium area) and St. Francis Borgia (SFB) Catholic Church in Cedarburg. Erv was a 1956 graduate from Riverside H.S. In 1958, he married the love of his life Sharon. Their hard work ethic allowed them to build a family business, Hopkins Cleaners. They raised their five children in a family-built home in Brown Deer. Later moving to Cedar Grove, Erv and Sharon spent much time planting and maintaining their park-like yard and gardens. Erv loved to travel. His favorite destinations included Medjugorje, Israel, Italy, Hawaii and Colorado. Erv exemplified what a Christian man should be, and was considered by many outside of his immediate family to be a father figure. This made him a perfect fit for pursuing his passion, being a sidewalk counselor at area clinics, where he advocated and offered hope to the pre-born. Erv also sponsored a boy named Jonathan through Unbound.org. Erv started and coordinated SFB's ongoing bread ministry, picking up bakery at stores and delivering it to inner city charities in Milwaukee. Erv was an active member in the Knights of Columbus, the Padre Pio Prayer Group, That Man Is You men's ministry and the SFB coat and clothing ministry. Forever singing, humming and whistling, Erv's love of music began in his teens when he would sing Christmas carols door to door with his sister Lois and brother Joe. Erv went on to proudly participate in the SFB adult choir for over 20 years. Erv enjoyed attending musicals, and took the extended family to see a production at the Fireside Theatre every year. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 28th at St Francis Borgia Catholic Church (1375 Covered Bridge Rd., Cedarburg, WI). A brief visitation will also commence on Saturday, Sept. 29th at 9 am followed at 10:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Patrick Burns presiding. After Mass, Ervin will be laid to rest next to his wife at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pro-Life Wisconsin or Women's Care Center.
