Mr. Emery Medinger, age 89, passed away in Sun City West, AZ on November 16, 2017. Emery was born in Belgium on April 3, 1928, son of Joseph J. and Adeline Wellenstein Medinger. He grew up in Belgium and attended local schools, graduating from Port Washington High School, Class of 1946. Emery enlisted in the US Army and served in Occupied Japan through March of 1948. He returned home and was united in marriage with Lenore Schowalter at St. Mary's Catholic Church on June 25, 1949. The couple settled in Port and raised their four daughters on Whitefish Road.
Mr. Medinger worked in the Power Plant Operations Department for Wisconsin Energies until his retirement in 1988, after almost 40 years of faithful service. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and later attended St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church.
In his spare time, Emery enjoyed building clocks. He had many of them in his home, mainly mantle clocks and wall clocks, and loved listening to them chime the hour. Mr. Medinger loved spending time with his family, and they frequently traveled on driving vacations to see the country.
Survivors include his wife Lenore, of Sun City West, AZ, and their four daughters: Terri (the late Paul) Morauski of Port Washington, Laurel Allen of Sun City West, AZ, Mara(Dave) Swatek of Roseland, FL and Jan (Jack) Waite of Platteville. He is further survived by four grandchildren: David (Staci) Allen of Sheboygan, Jennifer (Jeremy) Sacho of Grafton, Oden (Jamie) Waite of Minnesota, and Doran (Leslie) Waite of New Berlin, six great-grandchildren: Alexis, Madison, Kaylee, Alex, Grayson and Ari, sister Audrey (William) Bowles of Belgium and brothers Harold (the late Katie) of Fredonia and James (Karen) Medinger of Virginia.
A Liturgy of the Word service is planned for 12 noon on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at St. John XXIII Parish St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH from 11AM until time of services at 12 noon. Emery will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Port Washington.
Memorials in Emery's name are suggested to St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Port Washington Food Pantry or a charity of the donor's choice.
