Elmer J. Mertzig Mr. Elmer Mertzig age 97 years of Port Washington formerly of Saukville passed away in the morning hours of Friday June 23 2006 at the Harbor Club where he had been a resident. Elmer was born in Chicago IL on May 20 1909 son of Henry Mertzig and Catherine Medinger Mertzig. On June 25 1955 he married Loretta Kraus at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Kohler. Elmer worked as a farm hand on the Theis Farm for many years and also at Harnischfeger Homes finally retiring in 1974 from Simplicity Manufacturing where he had worked as a custodian. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Saukville the Saukville Senior Citizens and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also enjoyed volunteering at the St. Vincent DePaul Store gardening playing cards and telling stories. Mr. Mertzig was a huge sports fan especially baseball and played the game until he was 65 years old. He also enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. Elmer was a wonderful caring and kind husband to his wife for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife Loretta of Port Washington and further survived by his brother-in-law Henry (Desma) Kraus sisters-in-law Lauretta Kraus and Helen Mertzig nieces nephews cousins other relatives and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 26 2006 at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Saukville with Father Karl Acker officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Little Kohler. Friends may call at the Church on Monday the 26th from 9-11 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials to the church are suggested.
