LIZ SANDFORD Liz Sandford (Lucy Elizabeth) 88 died Thursday February 24 2005 at Harbor Cove 425 W. Walters Port Washington where she had resided for the past 16 months. Liz was born March 2 1916 in Bannister Michigan. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Liz graduated from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in 1938 in Flint Michigan. She joined the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in February 1942. She served during WWII in Africa and Italy. 1st Lt. Sandford was discharged in 1946 with a Meritorious Service Unit Plaque and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Following her military service she graduated from Columbia University in NY NY. with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1948. Liz moved to Milwaukee in 1952 to become the Director of Nurses at Milwaukee Children's Hospital. Later she became the Assistant Hospital Administrator at Children's. Liz had summered on Mondloch Dr. Belgium beginning in 1962. She retired in 1978 to Belgium where she lived until 1997. She resided in a Senior Citizen complex in Kewaskum before moving to Harbor Cove. Liz was a lover of children books crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Liz was a member of the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park. She volunteered in the concession stand at the Park. Nieces a nephew and friends survive Liz. A Celebration of Life will be held the end of July 2005. Her body was cremated and the ashes will be spread at that time.
