Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Paulus (nee Streff), of Port Washington, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old.

Elizabeth was born on January 29, 1934, to Edward N. and Olivia (nee Klas) Streff on the family farm in the Town of Belgium, near Dacada, WI.

Elizabeth was a proud graduate of Saint Nicholas Catholic Grade School in Dacada in 1948 and Port Washington High School 1952.

After her high school graduation in 1952, she was employed at the law firm of Schanen, Schanen and Pauly in Port Washington for 10 years.

On August 21, 1954, Elizabeth married John P. Paulus of Port Washington at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past August. Elizabeth was employed at Lakeland Title Services in Port Washington, as Assistant Vice President for 33 years. At her retirement, she and John were awarded a 10 day all-expenses-paid trip to Disney World in Florida, by Lakeland Title Services, in appreciation of the excellent employee.

Elizabeth was a faithful member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, Luxembourg Society, Charter member of Belgium American Legion Women's Auxiliary, volunteer at St. Mary's Parish for counting the weekly collection for seven years. She was proud of her Luxembourg heritage. Elizabeth and John were selected Duke and Duchess in 2016 by the Luxembourg Society in Belgium.

While their sons were growing up, they enjoyed travelling and several times each year, they took their three sons to amusement parks in various states, which their sons really enjoyed.

John and Elizabeth also enjoyed travelling to New York, many times during the Thanksgiving holiday to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, while visiting their son Michael. They also travelled many times to London, Luxembourg, and Hong Kong. The couple traveled with Cardinal Timothy Dolan to the Vatican in Rome and Assisi, when he received his Pallium, to Ireland, alongside his second-grade teacher, sister Basca Paly.

Elizabeth enjoyed all sports, watching the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, and auto racing. She treasured attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband John, sons Michael (Christine) Paulus, Thomas (Ann Marie) Paulus and Robert (Ellen) Paulus. She was a proud and devoted grandmother of Elizabeth (John) Zimmerman, Steven (Julieanne) Paulus, Gina (Kevin) Brawley, Margaret Paulus, Alexandra Paulus and Veronica Paulus, and loving great-grandmother of Nora and Henry Zimmerman, Madelynn and Nathaniel Paulus, and Thomas Brawley. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister LaVern (Oliver) Depies and brother Edward (Betty) Streff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 5 Pm at St. John XXIII Parish – St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday the 19th from 3-5 PM. Father Patrick Wendt will be the celebrant. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John XXIII Catholic School in Port Washington.
