Mrs. Betty Ann Czisny passed away early Saturday morning, April 16, 2016, at Harbor Cove in Port Washington, while surrounded by the love of her wonderful family. She was 89 years old.
Elizabeth Ann was born on May 28, 1926, daughter of Erwin and Bertha Schmidler Thome. The family lived on Wisconsin Street in Port Washington and Betty attended St. Mary's Catholic School and later Port Washington High School. Betty met Norman "Swede" Czisny at a community party at Columbia Park. They were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on June 12, 1943. The couple lived on Wisconsin Street until 1956, when they moved their family to the house on Walters Street. Swede preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Czisny worked as an assembler at Phillips Sales (currently Holiday Trim) in Belgium, retiring in 1986 after 20 years. She made the best bows, and always made them when asked for her kids and grandchildren. Betty was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington, and was a former member of the Christian Women. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and counted cross-stitch. Betty was a great cook, and cheesecake & poppy seed torte were some of her family's favorite recipes. Mrs. Czisny was a 50+ years member of the "31" Card Club and a longtime squaredancer.
