Mrs. Eleanorenbsp;Strauss Ella Eleanore Strauss passed away Saturday morning January 10 2009 at Belgium Gardens where she had resided. She was 93 years old. Eleanore was born April 30 1915 in Dacada the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Schmidt Schecher. She was united in marriage with Anthony P. Strauss on June 20 1936 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. The couple moved to Belgium where they farmed and raised 7 children. Anthony preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Strauss was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church and had been a member of the Christian Mothers and Altar Society. While living on the farm Ella had enjoyed keeping a garden and an orchard. She was passionate about music whether it square dancing or playing an instrument. Eleanore could play numerous instruments by ear but her personal favorites were drums harmonica and the Concertina (accordion). Ella is survived by her six children: Diane (Robert) Wester of Belgium Gladys (Dr. Clifton) Peterson of Kenosha Marie Strauss of Port Washington Janie (Paul) Wagner of West Bend Gerald and Tony (Carolynn) Strauss both of Belgium. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren 4 great-great-grandchildren one sister-in-law Letha Schecher of Grafton other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony one son Ronald one granddaughter 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday January 14th 7PM at St. Mary Catholic Church Lake Church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home 171 N. Royal Ave. in Belgium on Wednesday evening from 3:30-6:30 leaving for St. Mary Catholic Church at 6:30PM. Memorials are appreciated to the charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff of Belgium Gardens and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of Ella.
