Obituary

EDWARD G. SCHMITZ Mr. Edward Schmitz of Lincoln Court in Port Washington formerly of Belgium passed away at Columbia-St. Mary's Ozaukee Campus in Mequon on Tuesday morning April 10 2007. He was 90 years old. Edward was born on August 30 1916 in Auburndale WI son of John and Magdalena Becher Schmitz. On September 14 1940 he was united in marriage with Lorraine Porte at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Belgium and raised their family. Mr. Schmitz worked at Simplicity in Port Washington for 35 years. He started as a machinist and worked his way up to Foreman of the Machine Shop before he retired in 1980. He and his wife enjoyed retirement by wintering in Mesa AZ for 24 years. The couple left Belgium in 1990 and moved to Port Washington where they have resided for the past 17 years. Edward was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Saukville. He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church where he was actively involved in the choir for over 40 years. Mr. Schmitz was also a former member and former treasurer of IAM Local 1430. He was very proud of his work with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s as well as his time spent as a Scout Master in Belgium. He enjoyed gardening traveling dancing and a good game of sheepshead. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Schmitz is survived by his wife Lorraine of Port Washington their five children: Wayne (Diane Fabini) Schmitz of New Berlin Karen Jean (George) Watry of Janesville Susan Schmitz-Kleckner of Port Washington Yvonne Schmitz of Cedarburg and Mary (Tom) Landgraf of Sheboygan. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren 25 great-grandchildren 2 sisters: Anna Kultgen of Cedarburg and Agnes (Don) Untiet of Wausau nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday April 13th 9:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Saukville. Father Karl Acker will officiate. Edward will be entombed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee later that day. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington Thursday from 4-7PM and at the CHURCH on Friday from 8:30-9:30 AM. Visitation on Thursday will conclude with a parish vigil at 7PM.
