Ed Ruffin, of Port Washington, formerly of Bettendorf, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 1, 2017 at his residence. He was 75 years old.
Ed was born in Matthews, MO on March 20, 1942, son of Ronald Ruffin and Stella Cates Ruffin. He grew up in Bettendorf, graduating from Bettendorf High School with the class of 1959. After graduating, Ed started working at Sieg Auto Parts, until his enlistment in the United States Air Force in 1966. He served his country until his honorable discharge in 1970. After his discharge, Ed resumed working at Sieg Auto Parts. On March 3, 1973 he married Alice Smith in Davenport, IA. The couple made their home in Bettendorf, where Ed continued working for Sieg for over 30 years. In 2010, the couple moved to Port Washington, WI to be closer to their son.
Ed was a member of First Congregational Church in Port Washington and a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, IA. Ed was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, which was unusual growing up in Iowa. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Alice and his son R.D. (Bridget) Ruffin, both of Port Washington. He is further survived by his two grandsons Louis Edward and Cyrus Dean, his two sisters Marjia (Al) Hehr and Bettie (the late Jay) Beck, both of Cleveland, OH, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Stella.
Memorial services for Ed will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 3 PM at First Congregational Church, 131 N. Webster St., Port Washington. Pastor Jeff Suddendorf will officiate the service. Visitation will take place at the CHURCH on Saturday the 9th from 1 PM to 3 PM.
