Obituary

nbsp; Edith Wallestad Edith Wallestad age 87 years of New Berlin formerly of Port Washington passed away on Thursday October 14 2010 at the Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa.nbsp; She was born in Cologne Germany on June 6 1923 daughter of Oswald and Bertha Voigt Stolle.nbsp; Her life in Germany wasnrsquo;t easy. Edith survived WWII bombings of her parentrsquo;s home in Duesseldorf Germany which was destroyed and many other air raids during the war.nbsp; She volunteered at a hospital for soldiers with head and neck injuries during WWII.nbsp; After earning her Masterrsquo;s Degree from the University of Marburg in Marburg Germany Edith emigrated to the United States in 1948.nbsp; In 1949 she married Dr. Philip Wallestad MD in Madison WI.nbsp; Edith worked as a cancer research chemist for the McArdle Institute at UW-Madison and also for the University of California at Los Angles (UCLA).nbsp; After her children were grown she returned to work and retired from the Wacker Corp. in Menominee Falls.nbsp; Edith also taught adult German Language classes part-time at MATC for many years.nbsp; She had a lifelong interest in art theater and music and painted many of the oil paintings that hung in her home.nbsp; Mrs. Wallestad also played the piano and was fluent in four different languages German English French and Latin.nbsp; She was a 48 year resident of Port Washington and an early member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Edith also enjoyed knitting crocheting cross-stitching and she also hooked-rugs.nbsp; Edith is survived by her three daughters Kristin (Foster) Palmer of Wheaton IL Ingrid (Rev. Barry) Hoerz of Sharon WI and Erika (Peter) Milosevich of New Berlin.nbsp; She is further survived by four grandchildren Jonathan Whedbee Kenneth and Robert Hoerz and Katie Milosevich nieces other relatives and many friends in Germany and the US.nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Hildburg Bueddefeld.nbsp; Funeral services will be held for Edith on Friday October 22nd at 11 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Port Washington with Rev. Barry Hoerz officiating.nbsp; Visitation will be held on Thursday October 21st from 5-7 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W.
