Obituary

Mrs. E. Maxine Cooper went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, May 24, 2018, in Port Washington, WI. She had recently moved from Butler, WI with her husband. She was 90 years old. She was born on September 19, 1927, in El Dorado, KS, daughter of Crandall "CD" and Nellie(Gossett) Bradbury. Maxine, as she preferred to be called, grew up in Oil Hill, KS and attended local schools there, graduating from El Dorado High School before moving to Wisconsin to attend UW Madison. While there she received a degree in Music Education and a minor in English. Late in her schooling she was introduced to her future husband Allen while on a double date. The romance blossomed and they were married on March 29, 1953 in Plymouth, WI. While in Plymouth, she taught Music Education at Plymouth High School, later moving to Hartford where Mrs. Cooper became a substitute music teacher for the Hartford School District. She and her husband were members at Hartford First Methodist Church where she helped in the worship services through the gift of music. Later they attended the Waukesha Salvation Army Corps where she was a pianist and organist for over 20 years. In the late 70's the couple moved to Butler, WI where they managed an apartment building which they purchased as an investment. Maxine loved to watch the children who lived in the building while making. many friends with her visitors. She always had ice cream and toys for children who came to visit. She also loved watching the birds in her yard, and took great care to make sure there was food and water ready for them. She was a lifelong musician, playing piano and organ. When she wasn't playing or singing hymns, she loved playing classical music and listening to good jazz. Allen and Maxine were proud members of the UW Madison Alumni Club. They loved to visit Fort Meyers beach in Florida since this was the site of their honeymoon in 1953, and a place of special memories that they will always cherish. She also taught individual piano lessons to many grateful students during her lifetime. Maxine was a caring, loving mother and wife who was loved greatly by her family and many people who knew her. They will never forget what she did for them. God bless you greatly, Maxine! As she would say to her family, we "Love you dearly". Maxine is survived by her husband Allen, of Lincoln Village, Port Washington, their son Keith (Karen) Cooper of Des Moines, IA and daughter Connie (Brian) Smokowicz of Port Washington. She is further survived by step-granddaughters Christa (Jason) Callen of Oskaloosa, IA and Amy Moore of Des Moines, IA, step-great-grandchildren Dalton, JT and Raelynne Callen, all of Oskaloosa, IA sister-in-law Lucy (the late Louis) Bartz of Edgerton and brother-in-law Rollie (Nancy) Cooper of Whitewater, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Ed (the late Joy) Bradbury. A Memorial Service will be held at Janesville Salvation Army Corp. (514 Sutherland Ave., Janesville, WI) on Saturday, June 23rd at 1PM. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Saturday from 11AM until services at 1PM.
