Obituary

Duane L. Plier 92 of Fredonia Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Duane was born on July 7, 1931, to Arthur and Hildegard Plier in Waupun WI,

Duane attended Dacada School "where he never let school interfere with his education". Right after high school he was drafted by the military and served in the Korean war with his fellow Marines. Duane loved working with his hands, farming, construction, mechanics, woodworking and so on. "Hard worker"' was his middle name.

Duane enjoyed riding his Harley and causing a ruckus in his single years. On June 16, 1955, he married Jacquileen Ulberg and had three wonderful children: Mike (Kathy), Ward (Shelley), and Janelle (John). His devoted grandchildren include Taylor (Megan), Paige, Seth, Ethan, Caleb, Kennedy (Corvan), Carson, Andrew and one precious great-granddaughter Flora.

Duane worked at Walter Wellenstein and Sons Construction as a finish carpenter for almost 30 years. During his working career he designed and built all 4 homes that he lived in with his family. Duane was a master of woodworking, and he was able to rig anything that needed fixing. He was a true artisan and enjoyed putzing around in his shop designing intricate tables, making bird houses and most certain, homemade ornaments during Christmas for his children. He was the guy you could count on to lend a helping hand, or to just supervise.

Duane had one of largest beer can collections in Eastern Wisconsin, where he left no stone unturned to discover the ultimate find.

He started barefoot waterskiing at 47 years old and was one of the leading competitors from 1971-1976. Duane was a hardworking man, and always gave all or nothing. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post 410 along with St. Rose Catholic Church in Fredonia.

For those who had the privilege of meeting Duane he loved sharing his stories and jokes with others, but ultimately in the end what meant the world to Duane was his family which he loved and cherished dearly. He truly lived a fabulous life and entered Heaven in the most peaceful way. In Duane's words: "I had a great run".

A private celebration of life will be held.
