DOUGLAS L. AHSMANN Mr. Douglas L. Ahsmann age 84 years of Port Washington passed away at Lawlis Hospice in Mequon on Saturday March 21 2015. Douglas was born August 16 1930 at the family home in Thiensville WI (currently Fiddlehead's Restaurant) son of Alvin and Bertha Ebbinger Ahsmann. The family later moved to Wallace MI where they built their family homestead. At age 18 Doug left to serve in the Navy from 1948-1953 as an Aviation Bosun Mate 3rd Class. On January 30 1960 he was united in marriage with Ardyce Ardy Mathisen at St. John's Catholic Church in South Milwaukee. The couple moved to Port Washington in 1962 buying a home on Hwy LL and started their family. Doug worked as a millwright and later as a welder at Daimler Chrysler Corp. for 37 years retiring in 1997. Douglas was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church a member of Port Washington American Legion Post 82 Milwaukee Metropolitan Military Club United Auto Workers Local 75 as well as the Retirees Group. He was an avid reader enjoyed hobby farming trees and cars. Doug was a mentor and chaperone for his wife's local Girl Scout troops assisting with MANY campouts and trips. Douglas is survived by his wife Ardy and their four daughters: Maren (Thomas) Finnegan of Palatine IL Merrie (Todd) Schamberger of Neenah Marcia (James) Trotchie of Port Washington and Melissa Ahsmann of Port Washington. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kyle Maggie Finnegan Adam Molly Schamberger sister Ruth Busick of Marinette other relatives and friends. Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack Ahsmann. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday March 28 at Christ the King Lutheran Church 420 W. Whitefish Rd. Port Washington. Pastor Jon Breimeier will preside. The family will receive visitors from10:30am until the time of service.
