Dorothy (Ehmann) Cahak, age 91, passed away on March 12, 2020 surrounded by her loving husband of 67 years and family. Dorothy was born in Tomahawk, WI on February 26, 1929 to Edna Elizabeth (Schultz) and Harry Joseph Ehmann.
She was born the year of the stock market crash and grew up on a farm during the Great Depression and WWII. After graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1947, she attended business school in Oshkosh then took a job as a secretary for the State Capitol in Madison. She married her brother Buzz' best friend, Loren Cahak, on July 5, 1952. They lived most of their lives in Rhinelander where they raised their 11 children. She was very involved in St. Mary's (Nativity of Our Lord) church and school in Rhinelander and sang in the choir. She worked as a teacher's aide and then a legal secretary for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, soap making, painting and quilting. She and Loren enjoyed traveling all over the US and abroad where she also did extensive research on family genealogy. After retiring, they traveled the country in their RV to see their kids and stayed in TX during the winters. They moved to Port Washington to be closer to family the last few years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Loren, of Port Washington, sister Jane (Jim) Roberts, children Joe (Beth) of Ramona, CA, Dave (Sheila) of Bishop, CA, Cathy (Dennis) Angell of Coon Rapids, MN, Mary (Glen) Kraetsch of Harshaw, Amy (Scott) Hagen of Reno, NV, Susie McVicker of Cape Carteret, NC, Patty (Dick) Martin of Colorado Springs, CO, Peter (Lisa) of Fort Worth, TX, Barb (Russ) Steinmetz of Port Washington, Paul (Heidi) of Menasha, and Mark (Patty) of Oak Creek. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Harry (Buzz), Ron, and Jim Ehmann.
A memorial service will be planned in the future.
