Mrs. Donna Mae Schroeter passed away Saturday morning, March 2, 2024, at Gables on The Pond in Random Lake, where she had been residing for the last 14 months. She was 85 years old.
Donna Mae was born in West Bend on June 3, 1938, daughter of Carl and Norma (nee Roell) Michaels. She attended local schools and graduated from West Bend High School, Class 1956.
On June 14, 1958, Donna was united in marriage with Vilas A. Schroeter at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend. The couple settled on the family farm in Silver Creek and began their family. Vilas preceded Donna in death in 2008. Mrs. Schroeter joined her daughter and family at their farm apartment in the Town of Port Washington in 2015, and later moved to Gables on the Pond.
Before her marriage, Donna worked as a secretary for Gehl Company in West Bend. After moving to the farm in Silver Creek she worked the farm with her husband. Later, she took a position at Fredonia Vision Center, and remained until her retirement in 2013.
Mrs. Schroeter was a longtime member of the former St. Paul United Church of Christ in Silver Creek and was active in the Ladies Guild and the Choir, as well as being Church Treasurer, a VBS teacher and was quick to volunteer for many necessary odds and ends at the church. She was currently a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia.
Survivors include her children Steve (Nancy) Schroeter of Sheboygan, Sherri (the late Jim) Melichar of the Town of Port Washington, Shelly (Randy) Bell of the Town of Saukville, and Scott (Jenny) Schroeter of Manitowoc. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Nick) Roland, Eric, Jason, and Hallie Schroeter, Adam (Kendall) Melichar, Bradley (Leah) Melichar, and Logan Bell, and seven great-grandchildren (with one more on the way!). Donna is further survived by her brother Gordon (Kathy) Michaels of Farmington, sisters Myra (the late Larry) Zehren of Kewaskum, Sharon (the late Dan) Stemper of Fredonia, and Gail (Jeff) Schneiss of West Bend, brother-in-law Delmar (Nancy) Schroeter of Silver Creek, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Vilas, grandchildren Jessica Schroeter and Justin Bell, sister Jeanie (the late Ray) Gerlach, sister-in-law Eileen Boblin and brother-in-law Lyle (the late Gertrude) Schroeter.
Funeral Services will be held at 6:30PM on Thursday, March 7th, at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Belgium (171 N. Royal Avenue, Belgium). Donna will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Paul UCC Cemetery, Silver Creek, the next day. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Belgium on Thursday, March 7th from 4PM until service begin at 6:30PM.
