Obituary

Donald G. Lohuis Mr. Don Lohuis of Pheasant Lane in Fredonia passed away Friday afternoon May 28 2004 at the Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was 80 years old. Don was born on April 14 1924 in Oostburg son of Elmer and Lizzie Ter Maat Lohuis. He entered the US Army in 1943 serving in France during World War II. He was united in marriage with Shirley Cooper on August 17 1946 in Franklin IN. The couple lived in Grafton for awhile before moving to Belgium and finally settling in Fredonia. Mr. Lohuis worked as a service manager for Koehring Corp. presently Omniquip in Port Washington until his retirement in 1986. Don was very involved with the area military groups. After his retirement Don drove many of the area veterans to Milwaukee for care at the Zablocki VA Medical Center until he was no longer able. He was a member of the VFW Post 5373 in Port Washington American Legion Post 412 in Belgium the Disabled American Veterans Post 58 in West Bend and the Military Order of Cooties. He enjoyed gardening photographing his grandkids and was an accomplished traveler. Mr. Lohuis is survived by his wife Shirley of Fredonia their children Michael (Sharon) of Medina OH and Teresa Terri (Robert) Kuckuck of Fredericksburg VA 5 grandchildren: Matthew Megan Daniel Elena and David 2 brothers: Norbert (Esther) Lohuis of Adell and Earl (Janice) Lohuis of Sheboygan 1 sister Regina Ginny (Merlin) Rusch of Sheboygan nieces nephews other relatives and many many friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 1 2004 6:30 PM at Eernisse Funeral Home 171 N. Royal Ave. in Belgium the Rev. Paul Van Loon will officiate. Interment will take place in Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 4-6:30 PM.
