r. Don Burich of Saukville passed away peacefully in his sleep at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton early Sunday morning, November 20, 2016, following a short and valiant battle with leukemia, which he fought with his great sense of humor intact. He was 73 years old. Don was born in Port Washington on May 14, 1943, son of Lawrence "Duke" and Elsie Kinast Burich. He attended local schools, graduating from Port Washington High School with the Class of 1961. On October 10, 1964, Don was united in marriage with Darlene "Lena" Wolff at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple settled in Port Washington and started their family, later moving to Saukville in the 1970s.
Don worked with his father as an excavator, later taking over the family business and becoming Don Burich Excavating. He continued working to the end, over 40 years on the job that he loved. Landscaping was his passion; he built a huge waterfall, about 15 feet high and 40 feet wide, in the back yard of his home. It was his pride and joy. Don enjoyed golf, woodworking, music and trap shooting (he was a life-time member of Saukville Gun Club). He was also an avid Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers fan.
Mr. Burich is survived by his wife, Lena, of Saukville, and their children: Darryn (fiancée Nicole Peterson) of Appleton and Daniele (partner Colleen Walsh) Burich of Neenah. He is further survived by his granddaughter Alexandria (Robert) Abitz of Neenah, great-granddaughter Olive Abitz, also of Neenah, former daughter-in-law Trini Burich of Menasha, brothers-in-law Don (jackie) Wolff of Hot Springs, AR and Dennis (Jan) Wolff of the Town of Grafton, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Joyce & Sandra.
A Celebration of Don's life will be held on Monday, December 5th, at the Landt-Thiel American Legion Post, 601 W. Dekora St., Saukville, from 4-8PM.
Memorials to the family are suggested in lieu of flowers.
