Dirk R. Verhey Dirk Verhey, of the Town of Saukville, passed away after a short battle with cancer in the morning hours of Friday, February 24, 2017 at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. He was 77 years old. Dirk was born in Milwaukee on November 12, 1939, son of Albert Verhey and Eleanor Berg Verhey. He grew up in Milwaukee, graduating from Messmer High School in 1957. After high school, Dirk served his country in the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1963. On April 12, 1969 he married Linda Glish at St. Eugene's Catholic Church in Bayside. The couple moved to Saukville to raise their family. Dirk retired from International Paper (Pioneer Container) after 20 years in 2002. After his retirement, Dirk drove for Ozaukee County Shared Ride Taxi. Mr. Verhey was a member of Rose-Harms American Legion Post 355 in Grafton. He enjoyed traveling making it to all 50 states and Canada. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family. He was an avid auto race fan and worked as a scorer/time-keeper at the Milwaukee Mile during the 1960's. Dirk is survived by his wife Linda of Saukville, three children: Kristen (Todd) Robertson of Silver Creek, Steven (Jodi) Verhey of Columbus, and Sarah (Erik) Halling of Port Washington. He is further survived by six grandchildren: John and Tom Robertson, Aaron and Emily Verhey, and Jorja and Jack Halling, his brother David (Barbara) of Mosinee, his sister Susan (Don) Frerk of North Carolina, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Timothy. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3rd, 7 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. Rev. Peter Kelm from First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarbrug will preside over the service. Visitation will take place at the Funeral Home Friday, March 3rd, from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is honored to serve the family.
