Dennis John Thusius, age 80, of Cedarburg, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin where he and Jan enjoyed the lake home year-round for the past six years.
Dennis was born on July 3, 1946, in Delavan, Wisconsin, to the late John and June (Krueger) Thusius. He was one of four brothers, alongside Roger, Richard, and Paul. He shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Jan Thusius.
Dennis graduated from Grafton High School in 1964. Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country, including a year in Vietnam, before returning home to begin the next chapter of his life with his family.
Known to many by his well-earned alias, the "Wheeler Dealer," Dennis was the owner and proprietor of Dennis' Sport Shop in Grafton. There he built countless lifelong friendships and began honing the storytelling skills that would become one of his trademarks. He later became a manufacturer's representative for Bell Industries, where his natural sales ability flourished. Eventually, Dennis started his own independent sales representative business, specializing in marine products, and was proud to welcome his son Jay into the business before retiring in 2016.
Dennis was a lifelong hunter and fisherman who loved sharing those passions with family and friends, teaching his children and grandchildren the traditions and skills he cherished. Deer Camp was sacred to him, and planning the meals—especially preparing the turkey—was a responsibility he took seriously. Few things brought him more peace than watching the sunrise while casting musky baits over his favorite weed bed. Those fish will be a little less scared now. He also coached youth soccer for six years, finding much success and enjoyment along the way.
He was also proud to serve as emcee for his Grafton High School class reunions, carefully rehearsing and refining his jokes with his family before the big day. Whether at work, around the campfire, or at the dinner table, Dennis always had a story or anecdote for every occasion. It may have made him a great salesman, but it unquestionably made him an even better father, grandfather, friend, and human being. He was the consummate nice guy—friendly, funny, approachable, and someone who made everyone feel welcome.
Dennis was a devoted father to his three sons: Brian Keith Thusius (59), Kevin John Thusius (53), and Jason "Jay" Thusius (49). He treasured spending time with his five grandchildren and took great pride in watching them grow into the people they are today: Jack and Patrick (21), Charlie (17), Elliott (15), and Willow (14). They will all miss him dearly.
In accordance with Dennis's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 23, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a service immediately following.
Generations Funeral Home & Crematory in Tomahawk and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg are assisting the family.
