Dennis (Denny) Eugene Merrill Denny was born March 11 1947 in Port Washington WI to Eugene and Marie (Winnemuller) Merrill Denny was a life-long Port Washington resident who attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1965 where he was on the track team a trombonist and drum major of the marching band. He met his future wife Susan Maechtle in the band. They married years later on May 20 1972. From 1966 - 1969 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. Denny grew up in the grocery business working for his father Gene after school and later as his Dad's Assistant Manager in Merrill's Food Store. In 1975 he became a Convenience Store Manager for PDQ Corporation. He was a top manager for PDQ for 11 years earning many awards including a Jeep and trip to Hawaii. He was a people person who always found time to give attention to children. In 1986 he bought the store on Grand Ave (where Ozaukee Bank is currently located) and operated it as Denny's Food Store until 1992 when he tired of the long hours. He worked briefly at Bills' Prime Meats in Brown Deer and then was hired by the JL French Corporation in Sheboygan where he worked as a lead person for the last 12 years. As a young man Denny liked to take his cars to the drag strip and had several trophies. He built model railroads. Denny loved to play numerous sports and was an avid sports fan. Later he added gardening lawn care and remodeling to his list of hobbies. He enjoyed travel especially Florida. In the last three years his favorite pastime was playing with his grandson Tyler. Denny was a dedicated family man who was always helping out his sons Dennis II (Amy) and Peter parents and in-laws as well as anyone else he came across that needed some extra help.
