Obituary

Debra “Debbie” M. Gans, of Cedarburg, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was 72 years old.

She was born on March 5, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Elmer and Carol Ewig. Debbie graduated from Custer High School in 1972. She graduated from Alverno College and earned her Master’s degree in Instructional Design. Debbie was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart Steven Gans on May 14, 1977. Together they raised two daughters.

Debbie was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. She found joy in entertaining, forging new friendships, fostering old ones, and embracing whatever adventure came her way. Whether with family, friends, neighbors, or her S.A.M. (Senior Adult Ministry) group at Northbrook Church, Debbie always loved being a part of events and activities, and if she could offer an idea or two, even better!

Debbie loved learning and filling her days with new experiences and activities. She enjoyed planning trips, dreaming up projects for her husband Steve, attending yoga classes, creating educational craft projects with her grandchildren, and spending precious time with her puppy, Chloe.

Debbie had a kind and generous soul, always willing to give her time, lend a helping hand, or simply be there for someone who needed her. After recovering from surgery, she was right back to embracing the adventures she loved. She attended Brewers games, discovered the fun of scooter rides, and returned to enjoying as much time outdoors on her patio with friends.

Her zest for life was contagious. Debbie didn’t simply fill her days, she filled them with people, laughter, purpose, discovery, and love. Her adventurous spirit, generous heart, and love for life will remain a beautiful part of the memories she leaves with everyone who was fortunate enough to know and love her.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Steven Gans, two daughters Jennifer (Ryan) Isherwood, and Stacy (Alex) Dott, and grandchildren, Madison, Raymond, Theodore, Sebastian, Nico, Tiffany and Landon. She is further survived by her siblings Connie (Ken) Heins, Mark (Cindy Carlson) Ewig, Shelia (Dave) Reynolds, Gregg (Teri) Ewig, and Julie (Steve) Wille.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Carol Ewig, and mother-in-law Beverly Horick.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 30th, 2026, at Eernisse Funeral Home, located at 1167 Washington Ave. Cedarburg, WI 53012 with Visitation beginning at 2:00pm, and the Service starting at 4:00pm.
