IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darlene Jean
Schommer
September 18, 1942 – October 8, 2024
Darlene Schommer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. She was 82 years old.
Darlene was born in Milwaukee on September 18, 1942, the daughter of Howard and Donna (nee Wilmont) Turk. She grew up in Antigo and Milwaukee before her family moved to the Saukville area. She attended Port Washington High School.
On October 8, 1960, she married the love of her life, Daniel Schommer, in Saukville. Dan and Darlene were blessed to be together for 64 years.
Darlene worked as a receptionist for both Bolens Manufacturing and Trak International in Port Washington, retiring in 2004.
Darlene cherished her family and community. She was a member of Divine Savior Parish. She enjoyed participating in the Community Quilting group at Christ the King church in Port Washington, and also generously contributed to Bob's Under the Bridge through her knitting skills, making numerous pairs of mittens, slippers and hats. Darlene's passion for crafting extended beyond her personal circles as she generously made quilts for every one of her children's weddings, showcasing her talent and love. Those who knew Darlene could attest to her fondness for babies and her adoration for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The fussiest of babies found comfort in her loving arms. She found solace and joy in spending time with her family, creating countless cherished memories.
Darlene is survived by her husband Dan of Fredonia, her four children: Christine (Dale) Arendt of Port Washington, Wendy (Shannon) Grant of Belgium, Bob (Toni) Schommer of Cedar Grove, and Lee An (Eric) Hedtke of Minneapolis, MN. She is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, her sister Peggy (the late Tom) Husting, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Donna, her son Tony Schommer, her grandson Thomas Schommer, and her sister Sherri Roell.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 12 Noon at Divine Savior Parish – Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 County Highway B, Belgium. A visitation will precede the services at the church on the 19th from 10 AM until the time of services. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
