Mr. Daniel W. Arhelger of N. Garfield Ave. in Port Washington passed away Thursday afternoon November 3 2011 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. He was 54 years old. Dan was born July 7 1957 in Milwaukee the son of William and Joanne Swayze Arhelger. On October 15 1988 he was united in marriage with Michele Balsom. She preceded him in death in 2008. For over 14 years he worked for Safelite Auto Glass. Dan was a member of Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington. He also belonged to Astro-Wings of Wisconsin. In his younger years he put a lot of effort into working on his AMX car that he raced many times with close friend Jay Streeter. Dan was an excellent craftsman who enjoyed woodworking as well as building and flying model airplanes. Dan and his brother Andy enjoyed bicycling and participated many times in the SAGBRAW (Sentinel Active Americans Great Bike Ride Across Wisconsin) a 300 mile ride across Wisconsin. The most important thing in Daniel's life was his family. His daughter Katie will cherish many special memories of her and her father battling over Wii tennis cycling horseback riding in Door County camping watching football games and hanging out together. Dan is survived by his daughter Katie of Port Washington brother Andy (Cathy) Arhelger of Rochester MN his in-laws Ross and Pat Balsom of Random Lake and many other relatives and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Joanne and his wife Michele. Funeral services will be held at 6PM on Monday November 7 at Friedens Evangelical Church 454 N. Milwaukee St. Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the church on Monday from 4-6PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to an education fund being set up for his daughter Katie. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
