Dan was born in Sheboygan on May 21, 1939, the son of Jesse and Josephine (nee Hand) Murphy. He grew up in Random Lake and graduated from Random Lake High School with the class of 1957.
Dan proudly served his country in the US Navy and Naval Reserve, a commitment that he wore with honor for the rest of his life.
In 1975, Dan married the love of his life, Carol Liedtke, in Milwaukee, and together they shared many joyful adventures. He dedicated many years of his life working as a draftsman for Klug & Smith, where he made countless friends and left a lasting mark with his work before retiring.
A longtime member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Random Lake, Daniel was a familiar and welcoming presence in the community. He was known for his love of his dogs—training them and hunting alongside them brought him immense joy.
Beyond his work and service, Daniel cherished time spent with family, creating memories while camping and traveling. His gatherings were always filled with laughter, where he would showcase his legendary roast corn on the cob that no one could resist.
Survivors include his children: Michael (Gabriella) Witteman, Dawn (the late Bill) Baker, Brian (Amy) Witteman, and Dione "Dee Dee" (Lonny) Techel. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren: Daniel (Leslie), Melissa (Christian), Elizabeth (Eric), Kurt (fiancé Nicole), Hannah (Shelby), Alex, Nick, Max and Sam, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, his brother Dennis (the late Theresa) Murphy, his sister Diane (the late Jake) Biever, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
