Obituary

DAMON J. ANDERSON Damon Anderson age 47 years of Port Washington died on Wednesday August 8 2007 while vacationing on Washington Island. He was born May 21 1960 in St. Charles IL son of Gordon and Katherine Hacquebord Anderson. On December 26 1992 he married Beatrix Cabrera in Oaxaca Mexico. Damon was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee receiving a Master's degree in Geography. After graduation he worked as a cartographer for several firms in southern Wisconsin. He became the Land Information Officer for Ozaukee County in 1994. He also worked as the Employee Relations Liason in the Ozaukee County Human Resources Department. He was a longstanding member of the Association of Land Information Officers Network LION and was recently designated as President for the State of Wisconsin. Damon was a member of the Office and Professional Employees International Union OPEI and served as steward for local 35.In addition to his vocational interests Damon was extensively involved in initiating and participating in activities designed to improve the quality of life in his community. He had served as President and Treasurer of the Port Washington Historical Society. He was co-chair of the organization committee for the Maritime Heritage Museum. He was a member of the Franklin Street Beautification Committee as well as the Coal Dock Restoration Project. Damon provided geographical information crucial to establishing the Inter-Urban Bike Trail. He served as Treasurer for the Maritime Experience Project and the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation. Damon was instrumental in establishing the Port Washington Historical District preserving the many historical landmarks of the downtown area. He then worked to establish the Historical Walk a self-guided tour of the downtown area promoting an appreciation for the history of Port Washington. Damon had many recreational interests including boating fishing scuba diving and restoring and maintaining antique cars. He enjoyed bicycling to work almost every day of the year. He was devoted to his family and spent as much time as possible with his and two children at the family summer home on Washington Island a place he often referred to as his paradise on earth. He is survived by his wife Beatriz and children Diego and Alexandria his mother Katherine Anderson of Port Washington and brother Gordon (Katie Schendel) Anderson of Amherst MA. He was preceded in death by his father in July 1990. A prayer service and memorial service will be held on Monday August 20 7 PM at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church 1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington with Father Tom Lijewski officiating preceded by a gathering of family and friends at the Church from 4-7 PM with fellowship following the memorial service in St. Peter's Parish Hall. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Port Washington Historical Society P.O. Box 491 Port Washington WI 53074 or the Diego and Alexandria Anderson College Fund c/o Port Washington State Bank 208 N. Franklin St. Port Washington WI 53074.
