CLEMENS "CLEM" GOTTSACKER
Clem and Joan Gottsacker loved to tell the story of their wedding. They were the first couple ever to be married in Saukville's Triangle Park bandshell. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1989; at 6:17 p.m. on August 29, Clem left this life for an eternity of rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Clemens Kenneth Gottsacker was born July 21, 1952, to Clemens and Mary (nee Gruenke) Gottsacker in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Following his graduation from Sheboygan South High School in 1971, he proudly served in the U. S. Army. Clem worked as a machinist for 30 years, 16 of which were at Logemann Brothers in Saukville. Clem and Joan lived in Port Washington for the first years of their marriage before moving to Belgium in 1996.
Clem loved the Lord. Clem and Joan first met at a Bible study group sponsored by Elmbrook Church. He was a willing servant and friend to all at Portview Church in Port Washington. His faith guided the ethics by which he lived. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and friend.
Clem's Locksmith Service was known throughout Ozaukee County. Clem's easy-going personality and absolute integrity made him the person to call when you were locked out of your car or needed to change the locks on your house. Clem started dabbling in locksmithing in the late 1980's and a few years later he filled an order for Port Washington's Marina for more than 700 keys. He grew his part-time business before cell phones. Someone needing help called his home phone, then Joan had to page him. He began locksmithing full-time in 2004.
Clem served as a Trustee for the Village of Belgium since April of 2003, serving significantly longer than any other current trustee. He also sat on Belgium's Plan Commission. Clem was a proud Army veteran and a member of the Melvin Wester American Legion Post 412, Belgium. Both of his sons served in the Army Reserves.
Clem enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, especially up north in Exeland, Wisconsin where he enjoyed the extended fellowship of the Jerry family. Famously, he managed to fall out of his tree stand in 2007 and crack the C-7 in his neck, an event that made him infamous among friends and family. His picture appeared in the Ozaukee Press for that event. He also appeared in the newspaper when he portrayed a red-bearded Saint Nicholas in Belgium's 2020 annual Christmas parade.
Clem is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joan (nee Reuter), sons Daniel and David of Grafton, stepson Michael (Marian) Barnthouse of Oahu, Hawaii, and step-grandchildren Dylan, Cody and Mikayla. He is also survived by siblings Jeffrey (Cathy) Gottsacker of Cambridge and Jennifer (Paul) Utecht of Gresham, nieces and nephews Benjamin, Christopher, Melanie (Dave) Abel, Becky Utecht (Shawn Cannon), and Margaret (Rev. Joshua) Baumann. He is further survived by sisters-in-law Judith (the late Frank) Sable and Janet (James) Dwyer, brother-in-law Joe (the late Bonita) Reuter, "adopted mother of the heart" Donna Jerry, other family and many friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents Clemens and Mary Gottsacker and brother-in-law Jerome (the late Justine) Reuter.
The family will receive visitors at Portview Church, 3457 County Road LL, Port Washington, from 9-11AM on Saturday, September 18th. Military honors and service will follow promptly at 11AM.
Memorials to The Wounded Warrior Project are suggested in lieu of flowers.
