Christine A. Gagnon "Chris" of Adell, passed away unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018. She was born on Nov. 17, 1954, in Plymouth, Wis., to Marlene (nee Michaels) and Gerald Steinhardt.
Chris loved spending time with family and friends, and she was known for her amazingly warm hugs and her contagious laugh. She was incredibly close with her sister and brothers and loved their spouses and families.
The Wisconsin Hoofers sparked a love of sailing and spending time on the water for Chris - and the Port Washington Yacht Club and all its members over the years were an important part of her life. As a member of the PWYC for more than 30 years, she held various officer's positions, from Commodore to Secretary to Treasurer. She also took part in coordinating the LMSS Double Handed Race and the Clipper Cup Race, which was especially dear to her. She once wrote that her life was richer for the experience of being as involved as she was with her fellow PWYC members.
Another important part of her life was the approximately 20 years she spent working for Smith Bros. in Port Washington. She loved the friendships she had with colleagues and customers at Smith Bros - and afterwards at Sass Accounting, Westby Production Components, and BDS Fastener and Supply.
In her youth Chris enjoyed marching on the Sheboygan Buccaneers Drill Team and Color Guard. She was an alum of Sheboygan South High School, UW-Sheboygan, and the University of Wisconsin. (Go Badgers!)
Chris was very proud of and close to her girls and five grandchildren. Nothing made her day more than spending time with them or watching them do the things they loved - at the hockey rink, a dance competition, concert, talking video games, traveling, playing cards, looking at pictures together, etc. She gave so much to everyone and asked so little in return. In a letter left behind, Chris said, "Above all else I love my children and grandchildren. They are the most important things I leave."
Christine is survived by her beloved mother and stepfather, Marlene and David Domasky; two daughters Marisa (David) Joehnk and April (Jason) Turner; grandchildren Austin and Owen Turner, and Isabella, Sarah and Mason Joehnk; sister Cindy (Mark) Schaefer; brothers Mark (Mary) Steinhardt, Bruce (Donna) Steinhardt, Jeff (Cindy) Steinhardt, and Mike (Yvette) Steinhardt; stepbrothers Scott (Janine) Domasky and Mark (Tami) Domasky; bonus children John (Christy) Claerbaut; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Chris is preceded in death by her father Gerald Steinhardt; grandparents Walter and Ethel Steinhardt, Harold and Martha Michaels, and Irene Michaels; sister-in-law Kara Domasky; and her special love, Bert Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Eernisse Funeral Home (1160 West Grand Ave., Port Washington). Pastor Jeff Suddendorf will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. All are invited to a "come when you can" gathering at the Port Washington Yacht Club from 3 to 8 p.m.
