Obituary

Mrs. Cheri Oberst of Random Lake, formerly of Saukville and Grafton, passed away at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Wauwatosa on Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2022, following a 3 ½ year battle with esophageal cancer. She was 60 years old.

Cheri was born in Milwaukee on January 9, 1962, daughter of Donald and Dolores (nee Funk) Lewandowski. She grew up in Saukville and attended local schools, graduating from Port Washington High School, Class of 1980.

On July 23rd 1994, Cheri was united in marriage with Timothy Oberst at a ceremony in Saukville. The couple were blessed with two children. Tim preceded Cheri in death in 1998.

Cheri was a machine operator for Level Valley Creamery, later Schreiber Foods, for over 30 years, retiring in 2016.

Cheri enjoyed knitting, sewing, puzzles, crafts, tending her flower gardens, and going sturgeon spearing. She was an excellent cook and baker who especially enjoyed making desserts; her family will miss the wonderful chocolate chip cookies as well as the tortes, bars and other goodies. On Friday nights she could often be found with a big bowl of popcorn, watching a movie with her family. The year she turned 50 Cheri insisted that she learn to drive a motorcycle so she could finally purchase a Harley. Cheri joined the female riding group "Stilettos on Steel" and had many memory-filled adventures.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter Katie (Travis) Shafranski, son Timothy "TJ" Oberst, Jr., and grandson Jacob Shafranski, all of Random Lake. She is also survived by her mother Dolores Lewandowski of Saukville, siblings Gary Lewandowski of Saukville, Lynn (Bill) Merrick of Mount Juliet, TN, Doug (Jean) Lewandowski of Port Washington, Susan (Rick Crivello) Lewandowski of Saukville, Paul (Tammy Zukaitis) Lewandowski of Cedar Grove, Brenda (Lorin) Christian of Juneau and Brian (Charlene Sickler) Lewandowski of Cedarburg. Cheri is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Timothy Oberst, Sr., father Donald Lewandowski and nephew Matthew Lewandowski.

Private family services will be held.

Cheri's family would like to extend their thanks to all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at Froedtert Community Memorial Medical in Menomonee Falls and Wauwatosa, as well as the Froedtert West Bend Cancer Center for all of the wonderful and attentive care over the last 3 ½ years.

The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
