CHARLES L. WATRY
Mr. Charlie Watry of Saukville passed away peacefully at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon on Monday evening, January 22, 2018. He was 77 years old. Charles was born in Hartland on April 1, 1940, son of Lawrence and Olive Schmidt Watry. Early in his life, the family moved to the Town of Belgium. Charlie attended local schools before entering the US Air Force. When he returned from service, Mr. Watry took a job at Bley's Garage in Belgium, and later took a position with Johnson Brass in Saukville. On September 7, 1968 Charles was united in marriage with Kathleen Ernster on September 7, 1968 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lake Church. The couple settled in Saukville and started their family. Mr. Watry remained at Johnson Brass until his retirement in 2002, after 38 years on the job. Even after retirement, he could frequently be found machining or welding in his workshop.
Charlie was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish, as well as being very involved with the merged parish when it became St. John XXIII. He sang in the choir and was active with the Men of Christ Wednesday group. Charlie was also a member of Landt-Theil American Legion Post 470, the Legion Riders District 2, the Saukville Chamber of Commerce, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1043, and Clay Ridge Hunting Club. He enjoyed working at Camp American Legion, hunting & fishing, fundraising for the United Way, skiing, bowling and rollercoasters.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, and their four children: Allen Watry of Appleton, Julie (Jeremy) Derenne of Casco, David (Courtney) Watry, also of Appleton, and Sarah (Mitch) Reams of Saukville. He is further survived by 7 grandchildren: Lydia, Kyle, Caleb, Jonathan, Derek, Dominic and Isabel, sisters Laurene Klas of Port Washington, Clara (Ray) Koepp of Fremont, Joanne (Steve) Bley of Belgium, Anne (Steve) Burress of Lebanon, IN, brothers Tom (Rosie) Watry of Cecil, Bill (Linda) Watry of Loveland, CO, Rev. Phillip (Betty) Watry of Sumter, SC, George (Karen Jean) Watry of Mesa, AZ and Joe (Ann) Watry of Cedar Grove. Other survivors include sister-in-law Barb Watry of Cedar Grove, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Chris Watry, and brothers-in-law Bill Klas and Don Schueller.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 6:30 PM on Friday, January 26th at St. John XXIII – Immaculate Conception Church, 145 Church Street, Saukville. Father Patrick Wendt and Father Jim Ernster will preside. He will be laid to rest the next day with Military Honors at St. Mary's Cemetery, Saukville. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Friday from 3:30PM until time of Mass at 6:30 PM, with a Legion walk-through at 5:30PM.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to Camp American Legion or to St. John XXIII "Here We Grow" campaign.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Nand and his staff at Columbia-St. Mary's Hospital, along with the staff of the ICU and Lawlis Family Hospice Center.
