Chuck Ellmauer of Port Washington passed away Sunday afternoon, September 17, 2023, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth, just a few days away from his 73rd birthday.
Charles was born on September 20, 1950, to Frank and Gertrude Wolford Ellmauer. The family lived in the Town of Cedarburg and Chuck attended local schools, graduating from Cedarburg High School, Class of 1967.
Following his schooling, Chuck enlisted in the US Navy and served in Vietnam. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Rifle Marksmanship Ribbon. Following his enlistment Chuck served in the US Navy Reserves until 1974.
On August 17, 1974, Chuck was united in marriage with Kay Gahan. The couple settled in Port Washington and raised their family of two children. Chuck was a tool and die maker and most recently had worked at Oldenburg Technologies, retiring in 2010.
Mr. Ellmauer was a proud veteran and a member of Port Washington Memorial VFW Post 7588. He was instrumental in bringing the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Memorial Wall to Port Washington for display, and worked tirelessly on helping to map the graves of Ozaukee County veterans with GPS, to ensure that their flag placement was correct every year.
Community was important to him and Chuck was involved as the chairman of the Fish Day Stands Committee for 18 years. He was also an avid hunter and gunsmith.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay, their son Kurt (Brenda) Ellmauer, grandson Tommy, and daughter Jennifer (Marshall) Johnson. He is further survived by sisters Antonia Evans and Francis (Daryl) Soukup, brothers-and sisters-in-law Michael Gahan, Lori (Buddy) Travis, Rick (Vicki) Gahan and Dottie Larson, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet Goldammer, and brothers-in-law Fred Goldammer, Tom Evans and Jim Gahan.
Per Chuck's request, no services will be held.
