Catherine Engibous, age 98, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Mequon, Wisconsin, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, service, and deep love for family.
Born on July 1, 1927, in Loretto, Michigan, Catherine was raised in Norway, Michigan, and grew up during some of the most defining moments of the 20th century, including the Great Depression and World War II. Throughout a world marked by rapid change and challenge, she remained steadfast, meeting life with resilience, quiet strength, and a deep Catholic faith that guided her every step.
Answering a call to serve during World War II, Catherine trained as a Nurse Cadet at the Mayo Clinic and went on to become a Registered Nurse. Nursing was more than a profession—it was a calling she lived with compassion, humility, and grace, reflecting her lifelong commitment to caring for others.
Catherine was united in marriage to William Andrew Engibous in Norway, Michigan, on September 4, 1948. The couple shared 39 devoted years of marriage together, until William’s passing on June 14, 1987. Together, they built a strong and loving family rooted in faith and mutual devotion.
In her later years, Catherine was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Michigan Wolverines, never missing an opportunity to cheer on her favorite teams.
She was a loving mother to four children: the late Mary (Pat) Connell, Bill (Kim) Engibous, Paul Engibous, and Susan (Danny) Birch. Catherine took immense pride in her family and was the cherished grandmother of 16 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 31 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family was the heart of her life, and she found her greatest joy in watching generations grow, thrive, and stay closely connected.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Engibous; her daughter, Mary Connell; her sister, Elaine Teeter; and her brother, Bob Brunelli.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 5681 N.
