Carolyn A. Daehling Mrs. Carolyn Daehling of Port Washington passed away Wednesday afternoon August 10 2011 at Horizon Hospice in Mequon. She was 83 years old. Carolyn was born June 24 1928 in Minneapolis MN the beloved daughter of Richard M. Hortvet and Camilla Andersen Hortvet. When she was 14 her family moved to Whitefish Bay where she graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1946. While in high school she was very interested in art. After graduating from Layton School of Art in Milwaukee Carolyn took a position in the advertising and art department of the former T.A. Chapman Company an upscale department store in Milwaukee. There she did the hand drawings of the store merchandise that was advertised in the newspapers and other print media and later became the Advertising Manager. She enjoyed vacations in Mexico where she painted several church pictures. On December 11 1967 she was united in marriage with Jack Daehling in Whitefish Bay. The couple moved to York PA where Carolyn continued to do free lance art work for various merchants in the area. Throughout her life Carolyn enjoyed painting and sketching and many pieces of her art can be found throughout her and Jack's home. Carolyn is survived by her husband Jack of Port Washington and 2 brothers: Robert (Phyllis) Hortvet of Cedarburg and Douglas (Barbara) Hortvet of Houston TX and sister-in-law Leora Daehling of Milwaukee. She is further survived by nieces nephews other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday August 20 at Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington. A private burial service will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Oak Creek. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11AM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
