Obituary

CAROLINE E. KRUIS Mrs. Caroline Kruis, formerly of Oostburg and Cedar Grove, passed away at Pine Haven Covenant Home in Sheboygan Falls on Saturday morning, December 19, 2015. She had celebrated her 91st birthday just a few days prior. Caroline was born in Sheboygan on December 11, 1924, daughter of Jacob and Esther Meengs Wykhuis. She grew up in Oostburg, graduating from Oostburg High School in 1943 before taking classes at Miss Brown's Secretarial School in Milwaukee. She spent time working as a clerk at the family store, Wykhuis General Merchandise Store in Oostburg. On November 11, 1947 she was united in marriage with Jacob Kruis in Cedar Grove. The couple settled in Cedar Grove and began their family. Mrs. Kruis worked at Lake Church Leather Products and later at Great Lakes Plastics. Caroline was a member at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where she had participated in the Ladies Aid Society and had played the organ for services. She was also a long time member of the Van Der Jagt-DeBruine American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to places such as Florida, California and Europe, playing golf with her friends, knitting and spending time volunteering at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Mrs. Kruis was well known for her baking and cooking skills, and her family will miss some of her special treats. Jacob preceded her in death in 2011, and she later moved to Pine Haven in 2013. Survivors include her children Fern "Paula" (John E.) Miller of Mt. Calvary, Carter (Katie) Kruis of Oostburg and Todd (Cindy) Kruis of Cedar Grove, grandchildren Andy (Sarah), Mike (fiancé Meda), Caroline and Mark (Noreen) Kruis, step-grandchildren Jenny (fiancé Jay) Fetzer, Jackie and Jay Miller, and numerous step- great and great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by brother Burt (the late Eleanor) Wykhuis of Oostburg, brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Mary Wykhuis of Oostburg, Henry (Fran) Kruis of Oostburg, Ruth (the late Lester) Kruis , also of Oostburg, Marion (the late Bob) Staley of Arlington Heights, LaVerne (Elwood) Soerens of Sheboygan Falls, Irene (Don) Schmitt of Sheboygan, and Betty (the late Orville) Erickson, also of Sheboygan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Jacob, infant granddaughter Clarissa Kruis, sister Una (the late Leland) Berenschot, brothers Wayne (the late Helen), Grant (the late Audrey), and Roy Wykhuis, brother-in-law Herman (the late Mildred) Kruis and sisters-in-law LaVon Kruis and Lillian (the late "Smitty") Smith. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 23rd at First Reformed Church, 237 S. Main Street, Cedar Grove. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 10AM until service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Belgium is assisting the family with arrangements. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the generous, loving care Caroline received at Pine Haven Covenant Home and Heartland Hospice.
